These tools do different amounts of the job. Adobe Express and Canva can help make visual clips, which you may need to join with a script, voice, and captions. YouTube Create is an editor that can export and upload a Short; its AI clip feature depends on your region and account. A free AI generation does not tell you how many complete Shorts you can publish.
What each free tool gives you
| Route | AI action and free limit | Export and posting work |
|---|---|---|
| Adobe Express Free | Generate two five-second video clips in total; standard video editing remains free. | Adobe says the free editor exports MP4. Assemble the clips into a Short and upload or schedule it. Check any premium assets before exporting. |
| Canva Free | Turn images into videos. AI uses share a monthly allowance of up to 20 simple Standard or Premium uses; complex tasks may use more. Canva's full “Create a video with Canva AI” tool is unavailable on Free. | Edit and download an MP4. Free elements can export without watermark; Pro content can require payment or leave a watermark. Verify the exported file and upload it. |
| YouTube Create | Free editor. Experimental Gemini Omni can generate vertical clips up to 10 seconds, but only in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the US as of this check; help pages do not promise a repeatable free quota. | YouTube Create can export and upload to YouTube from the app. UK and European readers should not plan around Gemini Omni access. Check whether the AI feature appears in your account. |

Adobe's plan table specifies the two lifetime five-second generations; its free video editor page describes MP4 exports. Canva's plan table separates free image-to-video from its paid full AI-video feature, while its download guidance explains Pro-content watermarks and default MP4 quality on Free.
YouTube says Create is free on eligible devices and regions. Its AI feature help calls Gemini Omni experimental and lists Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the US for mobile access. The UK and Europe are not on that list. Check whether AI clip generation appears in your account before you plan a series around it.
Test one brief in each available tool
Give each available tool the same small task: show an unlabelled charging cable, then the same cable with a readable “phone” label. This is an illustrative test brief, not a tested product result. Generate one clip if the tool allows it, then add the label yourself if the AI gets the text wrong. Watch the export without sound. Can you tell what changed?
- Check the free AI tool is available in your account before writing the series.
- Record the prompt, mode, uses spent, and whether the generated clip is usable.
- Assemble the Short; verify readable labels, audio, rights, and export watermark.
- Post or schedule it, then inspect the processed YouTube Short.
We have not generated and published this example in all three tools. The exercise lets you check the output in your own account. Adobe's two clips are lifetime uses. Canva's 20 is an estimated shared ceiling for simple AI uses; complex uses may spend more, and a finished Short can require several. YouTube does not publish a guaranteed Gemini Omni volume in the cited help page.
Choose by the work you need removed
For one test Short, a free editor and a few AI clips may be enough. You will still decide what to say, place clips in order, and check the export. If you plan a series, count how many finished videos you can review and publish each month, then compare that with the time and money spent. An AI prompt allowance measures only one step.
ShortsFast is paid: Starter is $29 monthly for 10 videos and one series; Pro is $49 monthly for 30 videos total across up to three series. It generates recurring faceless videos and schedules YouTube Shorts and TikTok posts. The generator comparison covers broader workflows. The free routes above remain better fits when you need one test or detailed manual editing.
